  "projectDescription": "The Big River watershed supports salmon populations identified as key populations to maintain or improve in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Recovery Strategy for California Coho Salmon. Furthermore, a 2007 fish passage assessment in the watershed noted that Manly Gulch, a tributary to the Little North Fork of the Big River, is a high-priority site for restoration considering the significant amount of high quality upstream habitat, annual observations of stranded juvenile coho salmon and steelhead and the disruption of watershed processes (transport of sediment and wood) caused by the anthropogenic manipulation of the lower reaches of Manly Gulch. This project restored and realigned 600 feet of Manly Gulch so it connects directly to the Little North Fork of the Big River. A 70-footlong backwater alcove as well as a large-wood controlled channel with gravel riffles and pools will was created. A new bridge was also built at Manly Gulch where it crosses the State Park Road.",
