  "projectDescription": "The aim of this project was to develop a high-resolution simulation model of the Russian River estuary that can be used to examine coastal, hydrodynamic and environmental conditions. This estuary model leverages existing data and models on sea level rise projections, future wave climatology, barrier beach and river mouth sedimentation regimes, and Russian River main stem and tributary flows into an integrated model to increase our understanding of the connection between coastal and watershed processes. The project’s primary team, comprised of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS; Santa Cruz, CA), NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management (Oakland, CA), NOAA’s Fisheries Restoration Center (Santa Rosa, CA), Point Blue Conservation Science (Point Blue), and the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water), developed a high-resolution model of the Russian River estuary and Sonoma Coast that is now being used to inform coastal and estuarine planning projects regarding future sea level rise and coastal storm events influenced by climate change.",
