  "projectDescription": "In coordination with the Integrated Water Resources Science and Services (IWRSS) team, NOAA’s National Weather Service, Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research, and the National Marine Fisheries Service, the USACE, and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), as well as the Departmentof Water Resources, Colorado State University (CSU), and Scripps Institute’s Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes (CW3E), the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) integrated efforts with the Russian River Habitat Blueprint and developed a multi-step process to identify a commonForecast Informed Reservoir Operations (FIRO) tool to maximize reservoir water capture to benefit a wide diversity of water users including fisheries. The result is a preliminary viability assessment of FIRO at Lake Mendocino.  Greater water availability will help reduce tensions associated with competing interests on the Russian River (salmon, kayakers, wine growers, municipal water users, and other stakeholders). If releases can be timed to take into account the timing and water quality needs of these interests, then management objectives beyond simply having more water can be achieved as well.",
