  "projectDescription": "The Sonoma County Water Agency implemented several projects that will delivered the outcomes of the Blueprint effort and addressed  the needs of the Russian River watershed. The goal of this proposed project was to install frost inversion towers to model more accurately frost events and to provide growers a more approximate time to these events and delay the use of water for frost protection. All grape growing regions in California are feeling increased pressure to reduce their use of water for crop production, but the two counties (sonoma and Mendocino) in this study were facing particularly high pressure to reduce vineyard water use due to concerns about water withdrawals from the Russian River system especially during low flows which could have serious negative implications on salmonid populations.  In the future, this modeling can help to determine if wind machines are a viable alternative to using sprinkler frost protection in these regions facing serious potential water availability restrictions, both currently and in the foreseeable future.",
