"projectDescription": "Through a regional partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources), Fisheries Division, the project removed 800 feet of hardened shoreline (sheet pile and gabion baskets) that forms the riparian corridor within this section of a critical spawning area in the St. Louis River Estuary. The resulting action restored the natural biological function of the shoreline and established spawning habitat features that would be attractive to lake sturgeon, walleye and smallmouth bass. The hardened shoreline along the Chambers Grove City of Duluth Park protects a walkway and fishing platform along the river’s edge. Floods damaged the former sheet piling and walkway and the City agreed to the restoration of the shoreline to a natural condition while retaining public recreational use, including fishing.",
