Specific activities included monitoring coral health, water quality and fishponds, coral reef resilience assessments, sea level rise impacts, forming community and fishpond management networks, estuarine habitat restoration in fishponds, outreach and education to communities, and training of marine fellows to become Hawai‘i’s next generation of marine conservation leaders.",

      "description": "31 managers responsible for 9 fishpond estuaries and 6 anchialine pool systems have participated in the Hui Loko (West Hawaii fishpond network). Established the Kai Kuleana Network consisting of 13 coastal communities. Developed 3 community-led Conservation Action Plans. Assessed sediment inputs to Pelekane Bay. Conducted research to identify nutrient impacts on coastal water quality and reef health and initiated discussions with coastal resort managers on land use practices. Increased awareness of changes in fish populations to inform managers. Developed and distributed guidelines to inform pono fishing practices across the region. Developed outreach strategies to build public understanding of the risks to and needs to species of concern. Supported development of six young conservation leaders through two cohorts of the Marine Fellowship Program. Conducted coral reef studies to identify resilience.",
