  "projectDescription": "On December 7, 1997, over 50 million gallons of acidic process water was released into the Alafia River from a fertilizer plant in Mulberry, Polk County, Florida (the Spill). The release injured natural resources in the Alafia River and in Tampa Bay. Several public agencies, including NOAA, FDEP and EPC, worked together to assess natural resource injuries and losses caused by the Spill and to recover natural resource damages to compensate for these losses from the party responsible. The 'Shoreline Stabilization and Enhancement through Oyster Reef Construction at MacDill Air Force Base' project was selected to compensate the public for injured natural resources.  Phases IV and V of a multi-phase project were implemented in partnership with Tampa Baywatch. In Phase IV approximately 3,250 shell bags were deployed by volunteers to create ~2,250 sq. ft. of oyster reef.  In addition, Phase V deployed 1,781 oyster domes restoring ~7,124 sq. ft of oyster reef.",
