  "projectDescription": "Snohomish County Public Works completed designs to breach levees at 68 acres of Mid-Spencer Island in the Snohomish River Estuary.  The project goal was to enhance access to and quality of Snohomish River Estuary tidal marsh habitat for juvenile salmonids through the strategic removal of relic dike sections on Mid-Spencer Island.  Existing dike breaches allow limited flooding but tidal channel development and fish access has been compromised.  Restoration of delta habitats is a high priority objective for Puget Sound Chinook recovery.  Design work led to a $1,385,000 construction grant from state funding sources.FY16 Resiliency funds were also applied to the site. These funds further developed project designs (number and size of levee breaches), completed project permitting, and also levee removal. The total restoration project contributed to the restoration of 74 acres of estuarine tidal marshwetlands at the Mid- Spencer Island site.",
