The youth come from organizations throughout Los Angeles County that work with disadvantaged kids and families. Volunteers will give the youth a presentation that includes key Montrose messages focused on safe fishing practices and background information on the DDT and PCB contamination in the area. Visual aids will be used to introduce the key messages and demonstrate how the contaminants have made their way into the food chain. Volunteers will also teach the kids how to hook their bait, cast lines, and identify fish that they catch.",

      "description": "July 2014 ProgramThe Los Angeles Rod and Reel Club Foundation (LARRCF) took approximately 200 youth from 11 organizations for a day of fishing in Long Beach harbor. Over 80 volunteers from LARRCF and other fishing clubs helped with the program. A selected volunteer on each boat gave a short presentation that included the key Montrose messages focused on safe fishing practices and background information on the DDT and PCB contamination in the area. Visual aids were used to introduce the key messages and demonstrate how the contaminants have made their way into the food chain. Volunteers also instructed the youth on the use of the fishing equipment such as rigging, selecting proper bait, getting the bait on the hook, and identifying fish they caught.",
