  "projectDescription": "Building on previous restoration efforts in Belle Isle (Detroit, MI) the Alliance for the Great Lakes removed debris from a 150 ft. area abutting a NOAA-funded restoration site with the goal of restoring a dangerous site to functional habitat. The Alliance removed 100 tons of large debris items, including concrete slabs, a degraded concrete seawall, and other small debris items. Subsequently, the shoreline was stabilized using soft engineering techniques and native plantings to prevent erosion and to enhance fish and wildlife habitat.  822 volunteers participated in clean-up and native planting activities in order to ensure the island remains a resource for citizens and wildlife for years to come.",
