  "projectDescription": "The Big River and its tributaries in Mendocino County, California, support populations of coho salmon and steelhead trout, two fisheries of concern in northern California. A NMFS Recovery Plan lists the South Daugherty Creek within the Big River watershed as a core coho recovery area. NMFS recommends reducing road density in riparian areas and decreasing sources of sediment throughout the watershed by treating high priority sediment sources. Through this project, Trout Unlimited and partners treated 9.7 miles of riparian road. 6.7 miles of road will be decommissioned and 3 miles will be upgraded for erosion control and erosion prevention. A total of 75 sites were treated preventing 6,019 cubic yards of sediment from entering the stream. A total of 43 pieces of LWD at 10 specific sites were installed along 1.25 miles of South Daugherty Creek and Johnson Creek in the same watershed to improve overall habitat quality and survival for coho salmon.",
