"projectDescription": "Beginning in 2012, the Montrose Settlements Restoration Program (MSRP) will provide annual funding for the MDRA Youth Fishing Project through the Education and Outreach Mini-Grant Program. The funding supports boat charter costs for youth (ranged from 10 ‐16 years of age) from at‐risk environments in the Los Angeles area. The Marina Del Rey Anglers (MDRA), a local recreational fishing organization, will coordinate and staff youth fishing trips that will depart from Marina Del Rey Harbor and head out to the Santa Monica Bay. Youth will spend time fishing in the Santa Monica Bay and learn about safe fishing practices. Each session on the fishing vessel will include an educational session about local fish contamination and safe fishing practices using visual aids, as well as instruction on how to fish. Fishing staff on the boat will also show the kids and counselors how to properly fillet a fish for the safest possible consumption. Copies of the MSRP Comic Book and Fish Identification Card will be distributed to the children to take home and to share with their friends and families. Post surveys for youth and counselor participants will be completed off-site and then returned by mail to the MDRA Project Manager.",
