  "projectDescription": "This project restored tidal and riverine hydrology and natural processes to create 326 acres of tidal marsh ecosystem at Smith Island in the Snohomish River Estuary, Washington.  This acreage represents more than one-quarter of the ten-year goal for the Snohomish Basin Salmon Conservation Plan.  The restoration removed an existing dike and tide-gates, created a new setback levee, and restored habitat features and native vegetation. The project provides substantial benefits to federally listed salmonid species, including Chinook salmon and steelhead.  In addition, the restoration also provides community benefits including, reducing levee maintenance costs, providing public access, and increasing flood storage capacity.",
