  "projectDescription": "The proposed project aims to 1) quantify the economic value and impacts that migratory and coastal fisheries of the Cape Fear River offer to coastal communities and economies; 2) assess the relationship between fish health and survival and water quality; 3) determine priority areas for conservation to improve water quality; 4) demonstrate the potential of various activities and actions to improve water quality; and 5) outline the value of these actions to drinking water users in order to help garner support for the Cape Fear River Partnership Action Plan for Migratory Fish.  The regional focus for this study is the mid to lower Cape Fear Basin in North Carolina. For the economic valuation, the primary focus will be migratory, anadromous fish populations, specifically the fisheries for American shad, hickory shad, and striped bass.  Complementing these analyses will be a public education and outreach program to communicate the importance of the Cape Fear River to the local communities.  One of the main benefits of quantifying the socioeconomic benefits of the fisheries in the Cape Fear River Basin is to be able to communicate the value of the fisheries and of the river in a way that is meaningful to a diverse range of stakeholders.  As such, a key part of this project will be ensuring that the results are transmitted to a wide variety of interested parties in various formats to ensure understanding and uptake.",
