  "projectDescription": "The Elliot Key Coastal Habitat Marine Debris Removal, undertaken by the Coastal Cleanup Corporation,  focused on marine debris removal efforts at eight turtle nesting beaches along Elliot Key in Biscayne Bay in Miami Dade County, FL.  Debris collected by volunteers during 15 cleanup days was weighed and disposed of properly. The Coastal Cleanup Corporation anticipated the removal of 3 tons of debris during the project period. Removal of this accumulating debris will provide more and better quality habitat for a number of sea turtle species known to nest in this area.Goals for the project included removing marine debris from coastal dune habitat of Elliott Key, a barrier island within Biscayne National Park, FL. Sea turtle nesting activity monitoring for two years (2013 & 2014) was completed by BNP resource managers. Loggerhead sea turtle nesting activity has increased since the restoration of nesting habitat began. A total of 15 community-based cleanups were completed between July 2013-August 2014. A total of 6,783 pounds (3.4 tons)  of marine debris were removed from Elliott Key.",
