  "projectDescription": "The project catalyzed implementation of locally driven, community-based marine debris prevention, assessment, and removal projects to benefit the coastal habitat, waterways and NOAA trust resources. Volunteers assisted with debris removal, outreach, and education activities within the Condado Lagoon in the San Juan Bay Estuary in northern Puerto Rico. Specifically, focus groups and littering-pollution prevention surveys were used to assess the needs and concerns of Lagoon stakeholders, then appropriate educational and cleanup activities were designed and implemented. Monitoring activities quantifed the reduction of grease and oil in the lagoon and the acquisition of knowledge by the local stakeholders.",
