"projectDescription": "Whatcom County installed seven log jams in lower Canyon Creek, a tributary to the North Fork Nooksack River in Whatcom County, Washington. The jams greatly reduced the risk that Canyon Creek would change course and damage residential housing and an adjacent state highway. The project also gave the stream more room, and restored 28 acres of floodplain and channel, benefiting threatened Chinook salmon, steelhead, and char. This project is a pioneering effort in a portfolio of actions intended to benefit fisheries, while reducing flood hazard.",
