  "projectDescription": "NOAA partnered with the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration (DER), The Nature Conservancy, Save the Bay, American Rivers,  and Reed & Barton to remove West Britannia Dam (aka, Reed and Barton Dam). The West Britannia Dam was the last of four barriers that existed on the Mill River. This dam removal reconnected four miles of the Mill River with 28 miles of mainstem, tributary, and natural pond and wetland complex habitat in the upper Mill River watershed for river herring, sea lamprey and American eel. The dam was removed as part of the redevelopment of a mill into a housing complex by Acuity Development. The dam was removed and the upstream river reach was restored in 2018. With NOAA funds remaining from this project due to infusion of USDOI Strom Sandy funding, NOAA collaborated with MA DER, the City of Taunton, and TNC to complete a FEMA-required Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) to address this and two other dam removals on the Mill River. The LOMR was completed in 2019.",
