  "projectDescription": "The goal of this project was to construct a new concrete Denil fishway at the Pokey Dam on the East Machias River in Downeast Maine. The prior wooden fishway at the dam was undersized and had partially failed so that it no longer functioned well. The new fishway helped restore and maintain important fish populations and ecological connections throughout the watershed. Access to more than 4,500 acres of alewife spawning habitat in Pocomoonshine Lake, Lower and Upper Mud Lakes, and Crawford Lake are maintained through this project.",
