"projectDescription": "Tampa Bay Watch implemented two community-based oyster restoration projects as part of the Community Oyster Reef Enhancement (CORE) Program. This program, led by Tampa Bay Watch, is a partnership between government agencies, schools and other community-based groups designed to restore impacted estuary shorelines and promote environmental awareness in the community. Benefits of oyster habitat restoration include the improvement of water quality through natural biological filtration and the creation of habitat for other marine organisms. In 2012 and 2013, funded sites included McKay Bay, which is managed by the Tampa Port Authority, and the Schultz Nature Preserve, which is managed by Hillsborough County Parks Department. During this project, Tampa Bay Watch hosted more than 25 events. These events garnered the support of 236 volunteers that contributed more than 700 hours to create oyster reef habitat.",
