  "projectDescription": "The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana partnered with the McIlhenny Corporation to conduct volunteers plantings throughout the summer of 2013.  Over 30,000 plugs of Spartina alterniflora and Spartina patens were cultivated and harvested on McIlhenny property before being transplanted to the proposed planting site near Little White Lake in the northwestern corner of Vermilion Bay.  Each planting event helped to stabilize coastal soils, reduce coastal land loss, enhance fish and wildlife habitat, and educate volunteers about coastal land loss issues.  Vegetative plantings have served as a successful means of halting the approximately 10 foot per year shoreline erosion rate that this area experiences.  Past projects have shown that these plants can colonize approximately 15 to 20 feet into the bay. 91 volunteers worked to restore 5 acres of degraded marsh.",
