"projectDescription": "Through funding from NOAA’s Restoration Center, in partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Pinellas County Environmental Foundation, and others, volunteers constructed a bridge to restore circulation to the back bays of Mullet Key in Ft. DeSoto Park, Florida. Tidal flow between bays in the Fort DeSoto Park Aquatic Habitat Management Area in Pinellas County were severed during the dredging and filling activities that occurred in the late 1950s. Summertime temperatures become extremely elevated in these areas leading to very low dissolved oxygen levels as well as severe seagrass stress. Restored circulation has improved water quality healthier essential fish habitat. Fish and crabs had migrated into the area within a few days.",
