  "projectDescription": "Matheson Hammock County Park, a 832-acre park in Dade County, Florida, was devastated in 1992 by Hurricane Andrew. The park's previously functioning mangrove ecosystem was severely impacted by the storm due to fallen tree debris that has clogged the tidal corridors, preventing flushing. The Wildlife Research Team (WRT) restored this mangrove habitat by unclogging the tidal creeks and removing debris in cross corridors.  WRT volunteers used canoes to carefully remove dead and decayed flora, including both above and below water remains of large red and black mangrove trees and invasive, non-native species such as Australian pine. WRT’s efforts were funded by grants from NOAA's Community-Based Restoration Program, in partnership with the Fish America Foundation.",
