  "projectDescription": "NOAA’s Community-Based Restoration Program partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the United States Navy, Fish America Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, and others to construct an oyster reef breakwater from limestone rock and oyster shell and create an intertidal salt marsh area behind the reef in a 15 acre area of Pensacola Bay. The shoreline along Bayfront Parkway in downtown Pensacola, Florida has been heavily impacted by human activities. Local volunteers, students, local restaurants, and oyster bars stockpiled oyster shell for the project. Volunteers planted native emergent marsh vegetation, while scientists planted seagrasses. The restoration site is already highly productive, hosting up to 800 birds a day as well as many marine fish and invertebrates.",
