"projectDescription": "The wetland enhancement project included the installation of a pump and water conveyance structure allowing Refuge managers to pump water in and out of the wetland as needed to sustain productive conditions and to control invasive plant species. The wetland project can now provide water management capabilities for long-term management of an existing 175 acres of coastal emergent wetland habitat. The wetland is contained within an existing earthen berm and is part of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. The structure was designed to allow managers to exploit somewhat frequent seche events experienced in Lake Erie to fill or dewater the marsh independent of pumping costs. Ford Marsh represents some of the last remaining coastal wetland habitat in the western basin of Lake Erie and this enhancement and long-term management will contribute to the delisting of the River Raisin AOC while adding significant value to a growing complex of protected, restored, and managed habitat along western Lake Erie.",
