DeSoto Monitoring Project implemented pre and post-construction monitoring to capture the effects of re-opening tidal connections that were closed during the 1950s and 1960s in the back bays of Mullet Key.  The historic tidal connections were lost by the construction of a man-made causeway, but were reestablished in 2004 by installing a bridge to restore circuitous tidal flow.  Data from seagrass samples, water quality samples, sediment cores, and temperature loggers, etc. were all collected to document the benefit of this project on the Ft. DeSoto ecosystem.",
