"projectDescription": "The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife and Skagit River Systems Cooperative restored estuary habitat important to chinook and other salmon species at the 220-acre Milltown Island. The partners improved and connected existing habitats and restored natural processes so that the ecosystem is self-sustaining and resilient to climate change. The project built on previous efforts completed between 2006 and 2014, which sought to increase channel habitat and tidal exchange. Invasive species were controlled as part of vegetation management plans for the site.In 2011, this project restored over 20 acres of fisheries habitat in the Skagit River Delta by removing over one-half acre of a relic dike network on Milltown Island.",
