  "projectDescription": "Through a regional partnership with the Great Lakes Commission, mill debris was removed from Muskegon Lake to help remove beneficial use impairments within this Area of Concern. This work restored habitat at four mill debris sites. This project builds off of previously funded GLRI awards that supported the engineering and design of the restoration of mill debris sites. Excessive woody debris was removed from lake bottom to restore open water conditions as well as the benthic community to improve fish and wildlife habitat within Muskegon Lake. Dredged sawmill wood material was evaluated and re-used as an organic supplement at the brownfield site of a former paper mill which once operated on Muskegon Lake.",
