  "projectDescription": "This project constructed 1158 three-dimensional concrete reef balls, set most of them with juvenile oysters, and deployed them on targeted sanctuary sites in Maryland and Virginia waters. These reef ball reefs will help improve water quality due to the oyster's filtering capacity, serve as habitat for oysters and other estuarine species, and provide additional oyster broodstock to the system. Additionally, juvenile oysters were produced and planted in both states. Maryland work was done on Cook's Point and the Bill Burton Fishing Pier (both on the Choptank River), and Virginia work was done on the Lafayette River.",
