  "projectDescription": "The goal of this project is to enhance shallow-water fish nursery ground across several representative coral reefs in Culebra Island and mainland Puerto Rico by applying low-tech methods to culture, harvest and transplant threatened staghorn and elkhorn corals. This will be done by using propagation methods to expand and monitor existing staghorn coral farms, establishing a new staghorn farm system, and outplanting and monitoring 8,640 harvested staghorn fragments to rehabilitate 2.15 acres of coral reefs at Culebra Island.  Coral farming approaches will also be used to collect, grow, harvest and outplant approximately 180 opportunity fragments (e.g., those broken off by storms) of elkhorn coral to improve their survival rates at Culebra Island, Vega Baja and Manati, Puerto Rico.",
