"projectDescription": "The American Littoral Society conducted a debris / derelict vessel removal program in Jamaica Bay, New York - a highly urbanized yet ecologically important estuarine area. With funding provided in 2010, the project removed and disposed of 20 boats and 240 cubic yards of smaller debris, for a total removal of 27 tons or more. Additional funding was provided in 2013 to continue disposing of large debris such and boats and docks. Throughout the project volunteers were engaged in cleanups, and an educational campaign aimed at prevention of marine debris.",
