"projectDescription": "Lummi Indian Tribe installed a self-regulating tide gate between the Nooksack River Delta and freshwater tidal wetlands associated with the old Smuggler's Slough, enhnaced those wetlands, and raised the roadway to improve access during flooding. The project is anticipated to increase delta rearing habitat for salmon, restore delta hydraulics and water quality, and reduce flood hazards. The project resulted in reconnection of 225.4 acres of freshwater tidal wetlands and beaver marsh, and improved flow along the 6.6 mile Smuggler's Slough. A shift in project scope allowed for contribution of additional funds to Engineered Log Jam installations that further improve habitat for threatened Nooksack Chinook sub-populations (see separate record).",
