  "projectDescription": "The Veazie Dam removal opened approximately 7.5 miles of Maine's Penobscot River.  It was part of a larger restoration project, including removal of the upstream dam, that upon completion opened nearly 10 miles of the Penobscot River and improved access to nearly 1,000 upstream river miles by reducing the number of dams that must be negotiated.  Eleven diadromous fish species have benefited by the improved access, five of which will had their entire range in the river restored.",
