  "projectDescription": "NOAA, in partnership with American Rivers, funded the removal of two antiquated, undersized culverts and construction of two bridges to improve access to salmonid spawning and rearing habitat in Ravasoni and Thompson Creeks for juvenile and adult Chinook, Coho salmon and Steelhead trout.  The culverts were replaced with bridges under engineering specifications designed by the California Department of Fish and Game using the NOAA Fisheries fish passage guidelines. The project opened 2.1 miles of anadromous fish habitat and prevented 1300 cubic yards of sedimentfrom washing into Thompson Creek, Ravasoni Creek, and the Mattole River. Because the barrier culverts were poorly placed, and covered in unstable road fill, they presented a high risk of failure in the next few years.",
