  "projectDescription": "The removal of the Simkins Dam will eliminate a barrier to migratory fish moving up the Patapsco River in search of their historic spawning habitat.  As part of the Patapsco River Restoration project funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the Union Dam located just upstream from Simkins will also be removed from the Patapsco River.  The removal of both the Union and Simkins dams should enhance public access and significantly improve recreational fishing and boating opportunities throughout the entire Patapsco River valley.  NOAA's Open Rivers Initiative, in partnership with American Rivers, funded the engineering and design for dam removal in 2008-2009.",
