  "projectDescription": "As a result of a pilot study conducted in June 2006 to assess the marine debris of the A-8 anchorage and environs, and the magnitude of the marine debris problem identified through that effort, the Port of San Diego  has developed a two-phase approach to manage the cleanup of the anchorage.  Phase 1 of the A-8 Anchorage Marine Debris Removal Project (the phase funded through this grant) began September 1, 2007, after completion of the California least tern nesting season.  Phase 1 consists of environmental marine debris removal and completion of the focused assessment of the remaining 45% of the A-8 Anchorage.",
