"projectDescription": "The Rocky Reef Project restored approximately 40 acres of subtidal rocky reef habitat to compensate for fish habitat. The reef restoration project involved the placement of 70,300 tons of quarry rock on 40 acres of ocean bottom within a 69-acre site located 0.3 miles offshore of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes. This area once supported low-relief rocky reef habitat that was impaired by coastal landslides that buried the reef with a thin layer of sediment. The constructed reef will be higher relief that will be resistant to burial and will support a high diversity of marine resources.",

"description": "We held two public meetings at the Marine Park Lifeguard Station, 5839 Appian Way, Long Beach, CA 90803. Since the Environmental Assessment document was not ready for public review at the time of these meetings, they were held as information sessions about the project for the public. We advertised the meetings by posting up flyers at local bait shops, fishing shops, dive centers, and other public venues. We also provided flyers to the Fish Contamination Education Collaborative outreach pier team to distribute to sport anglers fishing on local piers. We sent out an email blast to approximately 800 contacts alerting them about the public meetings. Each meeting had 10-12 members of the public in attendance and we invited our partners from FCEC and NOAA to provide information in an open house format at the meetings. NOAA’s David Witting gave a presentation about the Montrose case and the artificial reef project and then answered questions from the public.",
