  "projectDescription": "Bayou Lafourche provides drinking water to over 250,000 Louisiana residents, as well as 50 percent of the freshwater required by the petrochemical industry. Since the bayou's damming in the 1930's, water quality and general ecosystem health have deteriorated. Salt water encroachment has drastically affected rim marshes which, in addition to wake erosion, has caused destabilization of the bayou banks. This project reestablished fringe marsh along both banks of the bayou as well as along a small portion of hurricane protection levee and preserve habitat for marine species. Volunteers from civic, religious, and educational groups participated in planting days and total of 10 miles of bayou shoreline was stabilized as a result of this project.",
