The sanctuary reef will help replenish the overall oyster population of Chesapeake Bay. The reef was built with limestone marl substrate and planted with seed oysters grown by project partners and volunteers. The sanctuary reef provides critical marine habitat, improves water quality and is a small step toward restoring the oyster population.",
