Giant cutgrass was planted in the open-water area to maintain ponded areas critical to estuarine animal and waterfowl species.  The plantings and erosion control efforts restored approximately 200 acres of the Palmetto Bayou/Plumb Point interior of coastal Louisiana hard hit by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.",
