  "projectDescription": "The Sacramento River has traditionally produced some of the largest runs of Chinook salmon and steelhead trout of any West Coast River system. However, over recent years there has been a significant decline in Chinook salmon and steelhead stocks. While the causes of the decline are numerous, the seasonal diversion of irrigation water coincides with the seaward migration of these struggling fish populations, resulting in juvenile fish losses by entrainment in irrigation channels. This project prevented entrainment of juvenile migratory fish species by installing screens designed to keep juvenile fish from being diverted into pumps delivering irrigation water.",
