"projectDescription": "The lower Connecticut River supports one of the largest and most stable populations of American Shad in the U.S. and a population of blueback herring that is estimated to be the largest in the world. Unfortunately, all of the coves and tributaries of the river are in danger of being infested with water chestnut, an aquatic non-native plant that threatens downstream essential fish habitat. This project restored aquatic habitat at two locations on the river through the removal of the non-native plant. Seven acres of water chestnut were successfully removed.",
