  "projectDescription": "With grant funds from NOAA's Community-Based Restoration Program and Fish America Foundation, volunteers from the Wildlife Research Team (WRT) worked to restore tidal flow to mangrove hammock that was choked by downed trees and debris. Matheson Hammock, an 832-acre park in Florida, is home to the last mangrove forest in urban Miami-Dade County. The hammock served as habitat for migratory fish and sea turtles until being devastated by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. WRT volunteers used canoes to carefully remove dead and decayed flora and non-native species such as Australian pine, restoring 23 acres of mangrove habitat.",
