  "projectDescription": "CIMRI established an effective propagation and enhancement program for restoring the white abalone population in the wild.  Among other actions, the RC support helped finance collection cruises, hatchery operations, surveys of appropriate field planting locations, and studies designed to measure enhancement success. CIMRI will: 1) plan a collection cruise for white abalone broodstock; 2) attempt multiple spawnings of broodstock; 3) determine how temperature, diet, and density affect growth of captive white abalone; 4) cultivate larvae and juveniles at CIMRI until they have reached optimal sizes (approximately 100 mm) for enhancement in the wild (this task will take 3-4 years and only the first year of this effort will be supported by these funds); 5) conduct SCUBA surveys in potential enhancement sites to determine whether these areas are suitable for placement of white abalone; 6) conduct preliminary enhancement experiments with animals generated prior to ESA listing.",
