  "projectDescription": "Through a cooperative approach of multiple partners such as the J.N 'Ding' Darling National Wildlife Refuge, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the South Florida Water Management District, and local homeowner's associations, the NOAA Community-based Restoration Program awarded $100,000 in funding to restore tidal flushing between Clam Bayou and Dinkins Bayou, Florida. When developers connected Sanibel and Captiva Islands to the mainland more than 150 acres of mangroves were lost, oyster reefs and seagrass disappeared, water quality declined and important nursery and habitat was severely degraded. Volunteer mangrove planting events were held and more than 2,500 red and black mangroves were planted along the shoreline of Clam Bayou.",
