"projectDescription": "The project provided for the design of a salt marsh restoration on a 6.5 acre tract at the mouth of Many Mind Creek in Atlantic Highlands NJ. The parcel contained a mix of gravel parking, sandy beach, Spartina marsh, and adjacent uplands. The design was concieved as the centerpiece of a greenway along Many Mind Creek; an approximately two mile long creek with headwaters in Lenape Woods Nature Preserve that extended to the mouth at Sandy Hook Bay. The greenway was established and dunes and beach front were protected and enhanced with native plants. Point source pollution was eliminated from a defunct coal tar gas production facility was remediated upstream of the intended project site and access was improved to the creek. The greenway plan proposes to acquire a portion of the gravel parking area and convert to salt marsh, however the effort failed when a new municipal administration determined that a growing demand for ferry service parking superseded the needs for the tidal marsh portion of the greenway project. This resulted in the expansion of gravel parking at creekside. The concept for the Many Minds Creek Greenway has been adopted into the Atlantic Highlands Master Plan and Open Space and Recreation Plan. CAW 2/4/2004.",
