Video: Military Veterans Help Rebuild Fisheries

Meet Carolyn and Nate, two of the military veterans helping to restore northern California’s endangered salmon. In their own words, these veterans describe the struggle they’ve had finding meaningful work in the civilian world and their hopes for new opportunities working in habitat conservation.

These veterans began habitat conservation training in September 2012 through a NOAA-funded pilot project, in partnership with California Conservation Corps and California’s Department of Fish and Game. They’ve walked hundreds of miles of stream to collect information that will help scientists evaluate habitat restoration projects and manage the harvest of Chinook salmon.
