Deep-Sea Coral Videos 2012 & 2013

Included in the latest biennial Deep Sea Coral Research and Technology Report to Congress are video footage and still photos of our ongoing research. Below are video compilations taken during Northeast and West Coast fieldwork.

In 2013, the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer used a remotely operated vehicle to conduct visual surveys in canyons and a seamount off the Northeastern U.S. We completed 31 dives at depths of 1,608-10,827 feet. This is a five minute compilation of the second leg of this expedition, funded by NOAA’s Deep Sea Coral Research & Technology Program.

In 2012, NOAA and partners participated in a research cruise off the West Coast to explore and map deep-sea corals and sponges, associated fish and invertebrates, and to document impacts from marine debris and bottom-contacting fishing gear. This is a video from the first several days of this cruise, funded by NOAA’s Deep Sea Coral Research & Technology Program.
